Reata Restaurant [Fort Worth]
When we’re out of own, we always dream of Reata’s elk sausage on cheddar and jalapeno grits. The grits are creamy and cheesy and the jalapeno gives them an extra dimension. This is a starter but we always have it as main, along a few other side dishes. This time we had creamed corn (fresh, sweet, delicious), asparagus with bacon (the asparagus were al dente and went well with the bacon) and Bourbon onion rings (the buttermilk pancake batter didn’t really work, it was too hard and rather bland. We’ll skip the onion rings next time). All washed down with margarita on the rocks (for me) and habanero margarita (for Sean.) The habanero margarita tastes like a regular margarita until you feel the slow burn from the habanero pepper from the back of your throat towards your mouth. It’s very interesting.
